Injection molding (British English: moulding) is a manufacturing process to produce parts from both thermoplastic and thermoset plastic. The material is transported in a heated barrel, mixed, and forced into a mold cavity where it cools and hardens to the configuration of the cavity. After designing a product, usually by an industrial designer or an engineer, molds are made by a manufacturer of molds (or toolmaker) from metal, usually steel or aluminum and precision machined to form the features of the desired part. Injection molding is widely used for the manufacture of a variety of pieces, the smallest component of a complete body panels of cars.
